It all started with Herb Alpert
Kevin was 10 and not getting along with his piano teacher, so he asked for a trumpet for his birthday. Why a trumpet? Because of the Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass album his mother had just brought home. His dad approved: better than the acid rock his brother was listening to.
The trumpet changed how Kevin saw himself. The shy, skinny, insecure kid suddenly felt like a superhero. By junior high he was band president and emcee. In high school it was stage band, marching band and concert band, and his senior class voted him Most Talented. By eighth grade he knew music would be his career.
