Neither is better. They are different. A lot of pianists freeze when they face technology, multiple keyboards or organ manuals: which hand goes where, and what does it do? Kevin has been a professional keyboardist for more than 40 years, and he has owned and played nearly every kind of rig along the way. He will get you there without 40 years of trial and error.
It is a great appetizer, and it is also one of Kevin’s favorite live setups: seven instruments spread across 88 keys. Drums and bass on the bottom octave, then a trumpet and sax section, piano and strings in the middle, and a classic B3 organ on top. Kevin will teach you to build your own custom presets like this.
There is a difference between playing a trumpet sound and playing like a trumpet player. Real horn players breathe, and they stay in their instrument’s natural range. Kevin plays and teaches trumpet, so he will show you how to phrase virtual instruments the way the real ones sound.
His favorite trick: a Hammond B3 has no sustain pedal, so reassign yours to switch the Leslie between fast and slow. Your organ parts will instantly sound more authentic.

No. Kevin teaches keyboard students from the beginning, and he also works with trained pianists who want to learn synths, organ and live rigs.
Yes. Rig setup, splits, layers and preset programming for live playing are a core part of Kevin’s keyboard lessons.
In-person lessons are held at Kevin’s studio at 61 W. Ballard Rd., Colbert, WA 99005, in north Spokane County. Online lessons are live and interactive over video.
